End of an Era - John Simons closing down

Postby Norm the Newsletter » Fri Dec 18, 2009 6:01 pm

For those who recall the halcyon days of "proper" skinhead / mod men's fashion of the mid/late 60's onwards (I hope this won't precipitate an argument about what is/ what is not "mod" etc since thats certainly not my intention), I bring sad news.

John Simons - he of the Ivy Shop/Squire Shop/Village Gate chain; the original "Baracuta" Harrington Jacket; Brooks Brothers Button-down Cotton Oxfords; Bass Weejun Penny Loafers etc etc - is closing down.

His shop in Covent Garden will shut its doors for the last time in February next year - after 29 years of trading.

There is a sale starting about now - so, if you able to get along there, its a little bit of "our" history reaching a conclusion and you may find something to put in your Christmas stocking.

I feel quite depressed about it, to be honest.

The website with more info is here:

Yours dejectedly

Norm
