Repair jollop info good gear

Postby Rich B » Thu Jan 07, 2010 10:38 pm

Hi and a Happy New Year to everyone

Well after having my Xmas present back in september which was a decoke and some new fuel pipes.
Have had nothing not much to do but to strip and rebuild the SS engine .
As with most things that are 45 years old when it breaks it breaks big time
As i was rebuilding the engine i stripped the threads in the engine casing oh f***

where do i go now remove engine remove bearing and get welded not on your life as i have spent the last 2 months in agony putting it back together. so on to the internet thingy to locate so Super Nano Alien Filler type stuff and bingo up it came with this jollop called Q Bond thought will have some of that at £19.00 a pop just a bit expensive but has got to be better than engine removal and partial strip.

Stuff arrived via parcel force. AM in garage read instruction and fill up hole
leave for a couple of hrs then drill and tap out 7 MM this gear is perfect
gone off like concrete just as hard to drill as aluminium you can File it Drill it Tap it . you can even Glue plastic things back together with out the filler material
job sorted engine case filled with oil no leaks test rode scoot for 10 miles sorted :-D . Vespa now back on the rode ready for the warmer days or temps 15 degrees higher than today. :freezing:
Repairs anything and comes recommeded by me it says on the box wait for it will repair bumpers radiators motor cycle fairings electric switches door handles clips distributor caps alumimun castings computors wheel caps water pumps it is petrol oil acid resistance etc etc etc looks like super glue and it comes with 2 lots of different coloured powders

so if any of you have got £19.00 spare after xmas iwould suggest that you invest in a box and shove it in the tool box for when you in the garage on a long dark winter nights and you decide to tighten up that 6 mm bolt that extra 1/2 a turn just before you come in for coffee after the News at Ten or the wifes banging on door asking how much longer because she wants to go to bed

for info just google Q Bond

Thanks for this info sounds like just my sort of repair kit, all that rethreading and welding stuff is too technical for me. Give me a tube of sticky stuff any day.
I notice from your profile you mention Hillfields 1969. You wouldn't happen to remember Ossie (Ozzie?) with the Vespa SS Hurricane 'Sandpiper' would you. A superb scoot in Red Metallic and chrome - his mate had a dark blue SS. Just wondered as Fishponds was a regular haunt for me those days.

Unfortunately no, but then I wasn't one of the Hillfields youth club crowd, but they used to join up with the Eastville crowd (Eric Fricker, Phil Vowles, Phil Phelon, Tony Brock, Clive Oliver et al) occasionally for rides to Weston or Weymouth. I think it was a safety in numbers thing as the grebos were much bigger and older, mods mainly younger and more sensitive !!!! (ie soft).

Yes- Bob was one of the Hillfields YC mob- that would have been around 1966- 1968 (he'd be 57/58 now)

My old LI150 S3 was in Eastville prior to me buying it in 1968 (reg number 998 PHY), and on the back taillight area was "Bristol East 5" Was this possibly a local club or something?

Chris,

Doesn't ring any bells. Thats about a 1963 reg isn't it? I think in the early 60s there were a lot of 'serious' scooter clubs in UK, but the Eastville mods didn't have a formal club, just hung around Stapleton Road near to His Majestys cinema, before heading off into town or elsewhere. My 64 LiSpecial which I bought in 1966 had belonged to a 'scooterist' club member from Essex, and had various badges and a club banner when it arrived at the Eastville dealer (Eastmans). Then I slowly wrecked it - sorry I mean improved it, before giving it away in 1971. (Sobs quietly to himself).

happy memories- mine was a very early 1962 LI150 S3 which met its end in December 1969 in St George after a fight with a Morris 1000 van! (I was racing an LI Special at the time- not you was it????)

I remember well the "His Majesties" which was before "The Concorde" ( I think its a carpet warehouse now) Also Eastmans of Eastville- they specialised in scooters and three wheelers if I recall.

Give me a shout on the next meet/ ride out- I'm the ugly git on either a black and white TV175 S3 or a yellow and white one- we'll have a chat

best

His/Her majesty (concorde ) Eastville as it was the only place along with the Globe in lawrence Hill where you could watch cheap soft Porn. oh Barberella with (jayne fonda) and the vibrating machine thingy

Sod the Who in quadrophenia

Used to get the locks cut in the Bristolian Lawrence Hill just down from Machine mart and catch the late night taxi home on a saturday night from CALL A CAB in Old market next to the massage parlour by the Gin Palace ??????????????

Enought said as i am going Begining to get like some old War veteran

PS
Can any body remember Torchy who was employed as a usher at the Vandyke cinema fishponds and the wind up would be for 20 of us to sing this song half way through the film( Torchy Torchy the Battery Boy ) and then get banned for life every week before we got bladdered in the Full Moon fishponds on a sunday evening

Always thought the road down from the Gin Palace was designed to fulfil everyone's needs. Apart from the pub itself, the taxi office and massage parlour there was a chainsaw shop, an Indian restaurant and a church. Ready made community in itself.
My cousin Maurice and his wife Lyn used to run the Full Moon in Fishponds, so although it was always full of Teds and greasers I could drink in relative safety. Same crowd would gather at Fishponds Lido, with the Teds on the Golden Hind floating bar, Mods in the Spyglass moored further along the lake, with an occasional coming together !! Happy days

Don't really know Lyn's family so not sure if she had a sister. Maurice gave up the Pied Horse mainly because Lyn needed a break. He ran a catering business for a while, now I think he's doing landscaping or something.

Small world though - Lyn's sister may have married Gerry. I'll ask Maurice next time I see him but he doesn't get out much as Lyn likes to be at home.

We're going to get moderated at this rate taking over the forum for nostalgia !!

I'm intending to call in at the Shakespeare on 7th feb for the BMSC AGM, don't know if you or Chris Powell will be there - if so it would be good to have a chinwag then.

Gerry's now running the Swan in Hanham.

"Uncle" Maurice pops up occasionally but not often.
