New Year's Eve

Postby Jim » Sun Jan 01, 2012 1:33 pm

It was quite a few weeks ago when I received an email from Lewis, the manager of the Lanes club, asking if we could provide a few scoots for their decade themed new years eve party, to kick off the sixties section.

My first thoughts were- nah, worst night of the year to be out on the scoot, lots of lagered up geezers climbing on the scoot, (they tried!) crap weather, it always rains on NYE (it did!) the missus won't be too happy being left on her own (she wasn't!) so I decided not to take on the gig!

But that little part of my brain, you know- the part that's responsible for every rediculous thing you've ever done, was taking control, and was overriding all common sense, and screaming "Yeah, let's do it!"

So there I was, ten o'clock on new years eve, dragging the scoot out of the garage in heavy drizzle and high winds, and set off to meet up with Rich P and Mike, who obviously heard the same voices in their heads telling them to do the same!

Anyways, we met up, looking a bit like the proverbial drowned rats (I did mention it was raining!) rode into the club at the given signal, through the fire doors, onto the dance floor, revving the scoots like mad, which provided lots of atmospheric smoke, and parked up. All this whilst the clubs sound system was on full blast, but we made such a racket,I can't remember hearing what track was being played at the time.

Lewis, who's a decent sort of bloke, agreed beforehand to provide us with a big security man to stand guard over the scoots, which was a bit of a releif!

At the end of the sixties bit, we started up the scoots, and whilst the security staff held back the crowds, we rode out the same way we came in.

Had to run the gauntlet a bit, riding up Park Street, and having the usual race with a few well bevied up chaps, who seemed hell bent on chasing me on foot! Luckily they ran out of breath and I left'em spluttering in a cloud of two stroke fumes- strawberry flavoured, so not all bad!

So there I was, back sat on the sofa at 11:45 with the missus and a glass of sherry, thinking- did all that just happen!

Here's an un edited clip of the scoots parked up on the dancefloor, 'tho I kept getting a bit distracted by a couple of things!

Hope you all had a great new year, and I'll see you soon. Watch out for the date for our AGM, which will be posted up shortly.

Best regards, Jim
