Chris,

Pics def` bring back memories. Mention is also made of the `Silver Blades` Ice Rink. Interestingly todays Bristol Evening Post tells of plans to close it this coming autumn, converting it to students flats

My wife spent much of her childhood / teenage years during the 60`s at the Ice Rink, and amazingly has continued to skate there regularly, right up to the present day

Needless to say, she`s upset to hear of its closure, but perhaps it`s timely given she`s hurtling towards her sixtieth! (just as well she don`t read this)

Happy New Year Chris. & to All

My first visit to the Locarno was in 1967 (as a 14yr old) Monday night with older sister on the bus (NUMBER 21 FROM lOCKLEAZE TO KNOWLE WEST VIA THE CENTRE). Got a lift back from a mate Dave Long on the back of his brand new SX200. From that date onwards i had to have a Lambretta.Great memories of Mods dancing to the Temptations in formation on the dance floor, wiping their browe, then wringing out the supposed top pocket handkerchiefs with sweat.
Great Days which will never be forgotten.
Lets hope we have a Hot dry summer this year allowing us all to hit the road.

@ Steve.

Sorry to hear of the forthcoming demise of the "Silver Blades"- it was opened with such fanfare back in 1966 and its coming to the end of its life.

I went down there a couple of years back with my young daughter and I must say I was quite shocked at the condition inside- very very tatty with nothing being spent on it- a shame.

One thing did strike me was the upstairs bar (which appeared not to have been opened for years)- it was probably the original one that was built back in the 1960's (nautical features) Might be some good pickings if it is converted....
