HOGGIN' THE BRIDGE

Postby Jim » Sun Oct 12, 2014 5:21 pm

The 'Hoggin' The Bridge' ride is being held Sunday 19th October and as usual, we are taking part! This is an annual charity fund raising event where thousands of bikers (and a few scooterists!) ride from Severn View Services, across the old Severn Bridge, along the M48 turning off at Magor and riding back through Caldicot and ending up in Chepstow, where we can drop some dosh into the collection bucket!

This event is always very well supported by the public, a really great ride and always good fun! The bikers always appreciate the scooters and we always get a 'thumbs up' as they blast past us on the motorway!!

The ride starts at 11:00am, but usually takes quite a long time for all the bikes to filter out of the services. We normally join in at the roundabout under the motorway just before the old Severn Bridge.

So here is the plan-

MEET AT THE OLD TEA HUT SPOT

ON THE DOWNS AT 10:30AM

SUNDAY 19TH OCTOBER

DEPARTING AT 11:00AM

TO JOIN THE HOGGIN' THE BRIDGE RIDE

AT THE OLD SEVERN BRIDGE

AT AROUND 11:20AM.

The last few years has seen really good weather for this event, with lots of sunshine! Will we be so lucky again this year - maybe, maybe not!

This will be our last club ride during British summertime, as the clocks go back the following weekend, then it's officially winter, dark and cold!

Hope to see you on Sunday.

Big thank you to all who ventured out on the scoots on this ride today! Weather was good , if a little bit windy! Did I just say a little bit windy? Actually it was bloody windy, and riding across the Old Severn Bridge with what seemed like a force ten gale hitting you from one side was totally bonkers to say the least! But riding along leaning over at quite an angle certainly tested your riding and balance skills, and definitely blew away the cobwebs!

And as in previous years, the public turned out to watch the spectacle of thousands of motorbikes and at least fifty scooters ride back through Caldicot, and this part of the ride was good fun as usual! The ride ended up at Chepstow Racecourse, where we had the customary hot dog and coffee!

All in all a very good ride for a very good cause, and it has to be said that the biker guys are a really great bunch of blokes!

And that was our last official club rideout of the summer season! There may well be a few more meet ups on the scoots as we head into winter, so keep an eye on this forum!

See you around!
