From Wikipedia..."During the mid to late 1960s the Exchange was a popular concert venue. British Beat groups including The Rolling Stones,The Yardbirds,Cream,The Pretty Things and Spencer Davis all played several times in the main hall. A regular Tuesday night club called The Bristol Chinese R'n'B and Jazz Club was also established which attracted American Blues singers including John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson and Little Walter". Bloody e'll Bernie, I used to go there every week,from Yeovil,til my mate John & his girl friend were killed in a scooter accident on the way home at Whitchurch, I reco'n that would be around 19663/64.
Saw the Yardbirds and Graham Bond,and John lee Hooker,it was an old Mod haunt,everyone used to meet in a large cafe at the bottom of Corn
Street. I recall it was always packed and I think it was 5 bob to get in,
That poster must be damn rare because most people I talk to don't remember the Chinesse R&B club,everyone parked outside and there was always a lot of students because they got in half price.
That was the coolest place in the World for Mods in Bristol. Truly a piece of local Mod history- made my day mate !

Interesting bit of nostalgia there Bernie.
I saw lots of bands there in mid-late sixties, although have to confess I had forgotten the references to the Chinese R&B club, we always referred to the venue as simply the Corn Exchange.
Usually we used to climb in through a toilet window in the alley, as we couldn't afford a ticket.
Amazing connections with these bands though, Ian McLagan played for the Muleskinners, Graham Bond Organisation had Jack Bruce on Bass and Ginger Baker on drums. Ronnie Wood played for the Birds, who had legal problems with The Byrds over the name and became Birds Birds before breaking up. The T-bones were a blues band who mainly played as resident band at the Crawdaddy and Marquee clubs. Notable for their brilliant keyboard player a certain Keith Emerson, who went on to form ELP.
All that and 'Nurses half price' !! I still couldn't afford one.

Sadly I spent most of my teens in Chesterfield, where we used to go to various discos in the area. The main mod one we went to was'The Scene'in Chesterfield. Great days on my Series 2 LI..............Bank Holidays was Skeggy. Bloody cold in the winter though and girls at school used to wear long passion killers at least they still wore stockings and sussies though, even on the back of the scoot. Hee Hee Hee Happy Days

I suppose they had a football team in the League. Yeovil......famous for its leaning pitch and mods who wore gaiters and rode round on fresians and in 1964 I was still going to school on a scooter....a Triang.....Sorry old timer but the truth must be told. I rode from Chesterfield to Bristol in 1966 on me LI to seek out the King Mod of Somerset.....known as 'Colin', went everywhere I could in search of this iconic figure. Sadly I was told he had bought a Ford Consul 375 and had become a traffic warden in shepton mallett. He was a popular bloke with male drivers though.
